Jonathan D. Tamkin, a founding partner in Tamkin & Hochberg, LLP in Newton, Massachusetts, was born and raised in Boston and received his B.A. in political science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and his juris doctor, cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School. Jon is admitted to the bars of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the State of New Hampshire, the United States District Court, District of Massachusetts and United States Court of Appeals, First Circuit.

During law school, Jon worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts House of Representatives, Committee on The Judiciary, as a Research Analyst. Jon served as a Law Clerk to the Justices of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Appeals Court and was Associate Corporate Counsel in the legal department of National Amusements, Inc., a motion picture, and entertainment company headquartered in Massachusetts and which is the parent company of Viacom, Inc. At National Amusements, his experiences included all phases of corporate law, securities regulation and business transactions and commercial real estate development. Jon later worked as corporate counsel for a real estate development and management firm and then formed a law firm with several former legal associates at National Amusements before forming Tamkin & Hochberg LLP in 1995.

Jon Tamkin is involved in a wide variety of political, charitable and community activities. He presently serves as the Chair of the Town of Needham’s Zoning Board of Appeals, as a Court appointed Guardian ad litem in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Probate Court, is a member of Massachusetts Bar Association, REBA, the Real Estate Bar Association, the Board of Directors of the Needham Community Television Development Corporation, which operates the Needham Channel and served for nine years as the organization’s President, is a member of the UMass Amherst Pond Club and is a Lifetime Member of the UMass Amherst Alumni Association. Jon was the Founder, and served as the President and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Friends of Needham Hockey, Inc., and for many years served as the Chairman of the Town of Needham’s Cable Television Advisory Committee where he directed the Town of Needham’s negotiation and/or execution of cable television licenses with Comcast, AT&T, RCN, Verizon and other cable providers, as well as the management of compliance issues under those agreements. Jon was a member of the Board of Advisors of the Greater Boston YMCA’s Summer Camping Division, served as the President of the Variety Club of New England, the Massachusetts Chapter of the entertainment industries’ international children’s charity, as a member of the Jimmy Fund Advisory Counsel and was a founding Member of the Board of Directors of The Coolidge Corner Theater Foundation, Inc. Jon served for ten years as an elected Town Meeting Member in Needham, Massachusetts.
