Jonathan D. Tamkin, a founding partner of Tamkin & Hochberg, LLP, was born and raised in Boston and received his B.A. in political science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and his juris doctor, cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School. Jon is admitted to the bars of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the State of New Hampshire, the United States District Court, District of Massachusetts and United States Court of Appeals, First Circuit.
During law school, Jon worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts House of Representatives, Committee on The Judiciary, as a Research Analyst. Jon served as a Law Clerk to the Justices of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Appeals Court and was Associate Corporate Counsel in the legal department of National Amusements, Inc., a motion picture and entertainment company headquartered in Massachusetts which is the parent company of Viacom, Inc. At National Amusements, his experiences included all phases of commercial real estate development, construction, zoning, corporate law, securities regulation and business transactions. Jon later worked in real estate development and management and then formed a law firm with several former legal associates at National Amusements where he focused his practice in the areas of commercial and residential real estate, municipal law and zoning, real estate development, construction, business and corporate law.
Jon Tamkin is involved in a wide variety of political, charitable and community activities. He accepts referrals from the Massachusetts Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and serves as a volunteer arbitrator for the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Fee Arbitration Board and is a member of REBA, the Real Estate Bar Association. Jon is the Vice Chairman of the Town of Needham’s Zoning Board of Appeals, President of the Friends of Needham Hockey, Inc., a member of the Board of Advisors of the Greater Boston YMCA’s Summer Camping Division, a member of the Board of Directors of the not for profit, Needham Community Television Development Corporation, which operates the Needham Channel and served for nine years as the organization’s President. Since the 1980’s, Jon has been actively involved with the Variety Club of New England, the Massachusetts Chapter of the entertainment industries’ international children’s charity, serving at various times as the Chairman of its Board of Directors and as its President, Vice President and General Counsel. He has been a member of the Jimmy Fund Advisory Counsel, was a Founding Member of the Coolidge Corner Theater Foundation, Inc. and served for many years as the Chairman of the Town of Needham’s Cable Television Advisory Committee where he directed the Town of Needham’s negotiation and/or execution of cable television licenses with Comcast, AT&T, RCN, Verizon and other providers, as well as the management of compliance issues under those agreements. Jon served for ten years as an elected Town Meeting Member in Needham.
For many years Jon has been selected a Super Lawyer in Real Estate law and more recently in Business and Corporate law, by a blue ribbon panel of Massachusetts attorneys, he holds the highest AV Peer Review Rating from legal publication Martindale Hubbell and holds a Superb rating by Avvo.
Jon manages Tamkin & Hochberg’s Real Estate, Finance, Corporate and Non Profit practices and serves as outside corporate counsel to many closely held companies.
